Cairo Festival City Mall was officially inaugurated on November 25th during an event attended by H.E. MounirFakhri Abdel Nour, Egypt’s Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade, attended the ceremony on behalf of the Prime Minister, together with Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al-Gaber, Minister of State in the Government of the United Arab Emirates. Moreover, several ministers participated in the ceremony, amongst which are, the Minister of Investment, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Development, Minister of Tourism, Minister of Supply, Minister of Electricity and Energy, Minister of State for Local Development, Minister of Civil Aviation, and Minister of Justice.
The opening ceremony was launched by H.E. Minister MounirFakhri Abdel Nour, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al-Gaber, Omar Al-Futtaim and the participating Ministers.
“On this occasion, I would like to congratulateAl Futtaim Group and the Egyptian community for the opening of this integrated centre which is a distinct model of urban developments and trade, as it reflects the big investment opportunities in the Egyptian market, and the quality of the UAE’s business community. We look for more Gulf projects which contribute in improving the economic growth, and realise the benefit and interest for all parties, through upgrading the level of available services, as well as providing more opportunities for manpower,” His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jabbersaid. The Minister stressed that the opening of Cairo Festival City Mall is a testament to GCC investors’ interest in general, and UAE in particular, in the Egyptian market.
The opening of New Cairo’s biggest shopping, leisure and entertainment destination was hailed as a landmark occasion for Egypt and as a reference point that foreign investor confidence in Egypt’s potential remains as strong as ever.
Omar Al-Futtaim, Vice Chairman of Al-Futtaim Group, said: "The retail sector is a key element in Egypt’s economy. The opening of Cairo Festival City Mall is a tangible evidence of the confidence foreign investors have in the promising economic prospects of the Egyptian environment. Notably, investors from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), in particular, have strong positive feelings towards Egypt".
He added, "Once operated to their full capacity, the 305 shops and 95 restaurants and cafes will provide more than 5000 job opportunities for the Egyptian youth. They will also enhance the national economy growth in an area, which hosts almost half the population of Cairo.
The opening ceremony coincides with the growing relations between Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, and precedes "The Egyptian-Gulf Investment Forum" which will be held in Cairo on 4-5 December, to discuss the means of promoting the laws and regulations of investment in Egypt, and enhancing the investment flow into the country
A group of prominent figures conducted an exclusive tour in the 168,000 square-meter mall, before opening the mall to the public. They further attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, signaling the official opening of Cairo Festival City Mall, amid an audience of more than 1700 VIPs.
The dignitaries who attended the special preview opening event were given an exclusive tour of the 168,000square metres mall and attended the ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the official inauguration Cairo Festival City Mall in front of an audience of 1,200 VIP guests.
IKEA, the globally renowned Swedish furniture retailer is one of the main shopping attractions of the new destination which also includes the country’s biggest outlet of British fashion icon Marks & Spencer and a first-to-market retail space comprising indoors and outdoors components.
Other key attractions of Cairo Festival City Mall include the region’s largest KidZania, Egypt’s first edutainment destination as well as Magic Planet for the young visitors, a 10,755 square metres Carrefour hypermarket, and a musical dancing fountain as the centrepiece of an Amphitheatre offering a myriad of performances and entertainment for the guests.
