Establishment of Electrical Power Substation

At a large ceremony attended by a plethora of public figures
and major companies’ representatives in Egypt, Cairo Festival City unveiled a power
substation to serve its mixed use project at New Cairo that is to be established over
three million square meters area. It shall include the largest mall in Egypt, housing units
in the form of villas and apartments and an area for world class pioneering hotels. The
project will also provide administrative activities through a business area comprised of
state of the art administrative buildings. In addition, it embraces the largest mall in
Egypt housing 310 shops including Carrefour, Hyper Market and the most famous
brands in the world of furniture and accessories. The project is comprised of a cinema
complex that has 16 screens and a restaurant area. It shall be inaugurated at the
beginning of the second half of 2013.
The new electrical substation has been completed. It has a capacity of 66/22 KV with an
output of 60 megawatts. It was constructed in collaboration with Carillion Construction
Limited, ABB and Elsewedy Cables as part of a project to provide electric power at a
cost of EGP 350 million. It has been completed in 24 months with the aim of
confronting all unexpected electricity related risks that Egypt faced during the last two
years.
During the ceremony, Dr. Mohamed El-Mikawi, Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate
Managing Director, said that the substation is connected to two large scale substations
that are part of the main electrical grid via high voltage underground cables to guarantee
continued electrical feed. The first 14 kilometres cables route connects Cairo Festival
City new substation to the 220/66 KV substation located at Cairo – Suez highway while
the other four kilometres cables route connects to the 220/66 KV Zahraa Nasr City
substation, according to him.
El-Mikawi added that Cairo Festival City also constructed an extensive medium voltage
cable network that extends over 130 kilometres to provide 22 KV and power
distribution stations so as to serve its real estate comprehensive commercial and housing
project. The purpose is to ensure providing clients with various services in a manner
exceeding their expectations in dealing with this urban project, which is considered as a
distinguished and unique representation of the integrated community in Egypt, he
pointed out.
The managing director pointed out that Cairo Festival City was keen to implement its
project in order to provide electric power. This is due to that the city deals with its
 
clients on the basis that it is a name changing the concept of urban communities in
Egypt, he noted. El-Mikawi explained that these communities won’t be just places for
living and working, but will also provide a unique lifestyle depending on state of the art
buildings, which serve as the safest and most distinguished entertaining ones amidst a
healthy environment that stands out for its fascinating location.
He highlighted that Cairo Festival City allocated large areas for all forms of
entertainment needed by families either in the shopping mall that houses most famous
brand name stores under one roof or closed and open air restaurants. A school for
international education, areas for educational entertainment (Kidzania), automotive
showrooms and Toyota and Honda maintenance agencies will be available all within a
relaxing atmosphere, he stated.
The ceremony participants including public figures and representatives of major
companies hailed Cairo Festival City’s major keenness to provide all means of comfort
to clients of its comprehensive housing and commercial complex. They considered it as
a unique urban communities’ project in Egypt.
